SUMMARY:Free Eye Clinic for Western Alaska Evacuees
DESCRIPTION:Alaska Eye Care Providers and the Lions Clubs in Anchorage Come Together to Provide Care After Typhoon Halong Wipes Out Villages\nDoctors and volunteers and the local Lions Clubs of Anchorage are coming together to help communities that were devastated by Typhoon Halong by holding a free eye clinic November 2\, 2025\, at the Mountain View Lions Clubhouse at 501 N Pine St in Anchorage from 11AM to 7PM. The event will be run on a first-come\, first-served basis.\nRemnants of powerful Typhoon Halong brought disastrous tides to western Alaska’s Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta on Oct 12\, 2025\, uprooting homes\, devastating infrastructure\, and leaving thousands of people homeless and without resources. Numerous communities\, including Tribal communities\, have lost their homes\, food stores\, and personal belongings due to the disaster. While many evacuated to nearby towns like Anchorage\, others have remained in an attempt to rebuild during the harsh winter.\nAlong with food and shelter\, people lost essential medications and medical devices- including corrective glasses. Many people cannot see well enough to perform basic tasks such as driving and working without corrective glasses\, and some rely on ophthalmic medication to control sight-threatening disease.\nThe Eye Guys and Dr Patrick Campaign are joining the local Lions Clubs in offering free eye exams and glasses for community members affected by Typhoon Halong to help residents take the first\, among many\, steps toward recovery. Glasses will be furnished by the Aurora Borealis Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center and through Emergency Disaster Grant VSP Vouchers. The vouchers will be honored by any VSP provider.\nThe Eye Guys believe everyone should have access to good eye care despite their location and what the weather brings. Their teams travel by road and air bringing exams\, glasses\, and eye care straight to Alaskan communities. They have been around since 2005. They are proud to stand with their neighbors\, helping keep Alaskans seeing clearly when it matters most.\nDr Pat Campaign was born and raised in Alaska\, operates as a traveling optometrist and is an advocate for healthcare accessibility. He is a proud Lions club member and will be providing free exams at the weekend clinic.\nLions Club is an international organization whose key initiatives include vision screenings\, eyeglass distribution\, and disaster relief. While Lions Club has historically focused on fighting blindness\, its work includes caring for the environment and supporting underprivileged youth\, childhood cancer initiatives\, hunger\, diabetes\, and mental health. Anchorage is currently home to 9 active local Lions Clubs.\n
